With recent high-profile roles in "Twilight" and "Adventureland," Kristen Stewart is poised to become Hollywood's next big thing. But don't expect this Los Angeles native to transform herself into some perma-tanned, peroxided ingénue. This edgy new "it girl" is keeping her quirky style. In this week's Style Profile, we look back at a few of Kristen's red-carpet moments.
Oh, Kristen. Back in 2005 at the premiere of "Fierce People," we hardly knew you. That carefully coiffed blond hair! That frumpy pleated skirt! And yet, in your eyes we saw some seriously babelicious vampire bait waiting to bust loose.
Fast-forward to 2008 when, at the Rome International Film Festival, Kristen showed she had grown up considerably. In a fringe-covered white minidress she flaunted both her legs and an expression that said, "Is this over yet? You know, I was in this movie so I've already seen it, like, 12 times."
During a photo call during the same festival, Kristen still had her legs on display but kept it comfortable in a pocketed gray dress. What? A girl has to hold on to her room key.
At the MTV Movie Awards in 2008, Kristen managed to channel both "The Matrix" and Sandy from "Grease." (In a good way. Seriously, we especially dig the shoes, Kristen) Like any rising alternachick, she shunned bright colors and went for a look that could be called "grungy girl next door."
And then there was Rob. Kristen and her co-star Robert Pattinson are oft-rumored to be an item, and it's clear why. Both of them have perfected the art of rocking the bedhead. Here, Kristen pairs her untamed locks with an equally bold leopard-print dress.
Kristen kept her hemline high (and why not?) at the MTV Video Music Awards and stuck to her favorite footwear, close-toed black pumps. She also kept to simple lines and gray colors. Pink froufrou dresses? That's some Hannah Montana stuff.
At the London premiere of "Twilight," Kristen summoned her inner wild child. In a tight, asymetrical black dress, she looked more like a vampire slayer than an innocent victim.
Of course, it's not that Kristen doesn't have a softer side. In Tokyo for the "Twilight" premiere, Kristen sweetened leather with lace, or at least with this white, zig-zag hem.
At the Los Angeles premiere of "Twilight," Kristen showed that her style is still evolving. In an off-the-shoulder dress, she moved away from the simple, black shifts of yesteryear. (Notice the presence of Halloween-appropriate colors. Coincidence? We think not.)
Kristen took a risk at the Hollywood premiere of "Adventureland" with a coral Herve Leger dress. It paid off, and she became one of the vanguards of the bandage dress trend, now stretched over the bods of practically every hot young celebrity.
