The MTV Video Music Awards have historically brought out some of the wildest fashion moments in red carpet history. So whose ensembles will join the ranks this year? Wonderwall.com is rounding up the most stellar and stupefying getups from the 2019 VMAs, starting with this Bella Hadid's fashion blunder. The model showed off her belly button in this halter-style mididress, which surprisingly wasn't a two-piece look despite its crop top and skirt combo. Nope, strange straps down the sides inexplicably held this nude design together, though they looked more like suspenders. And the addition of those translucent heels certainly didn't help matters. These days, Taylor Swift and Versace are "Lovers"! The superstar donned the designer for the second time in August (she also rocked a bright Versace getup to the 2019 Teen Choice Awards!), and this time it was all about a multi-hued blazer-style minidress. The custom-made look featured some of the fashion house's go-to emblems like the Medusa, the safety pin and the Greek key detail while maintaining Taylor's current "Lover"-inspired vibe — rainbow — with dashes of hot pink, coral, teal and lime green amongst the usual black and gold. She paired the eye-catching frock, which was encrusted with Swarovski crystals, with a pink crop top and matching shorts. When it came time for shoes, she added black thigh-high boots. It was a signature red lip for Taylor Swift at the VMAs. She kept the rest of her makeup subtle but added one more pop of color to her ensemble in the form of those sparkly green hoop earrings.
The best way to sum up Halsey's look? The singer did it herself on MTV's red carpet pre-show, explaining that her ensemble was "kind of naked, kind of classy." She wore a Peter Dundas creation that paired black undergarments with a sheer red dress dotted with floral appliques, all held in place by a thick belt. And though we couldn't get behind her outfit, we did love the fun surprise she added when it came to her hair…
Check out the rainbow in Halsey's hair! The singer showed off her pride in the form of a rainbow part. And when it came to makeup, she kept things equally unique with rosy red hues on her eyes.
We weren't wild about Camila Cabello's Balmain gown on the MTV VMAs red carpet. The white spaghetti-strapped frock featured an excess of cut-outs and a slit at the center of the skirt, and it felt like we'd seen it a dozen times before.
The most stylish man on the red carpet at the MTV VMAs? That was Lil Nas X! The rapper rocked this impossibly cool look from Christian Cowan comprised of a silver sparkly suit with a cream blouse underneath covered in delicate ruffles. He rounded out his ensemble with a little more silver in the form of boots.
Gigi Hadid's head-to-toe Tom Ford ensemble seriously underwhelmed at the MTV VMAs. The supermodel rocked a monochrome ruched nude corset top with a pair of shiny wool trousers and pointy-toe Mary Jane heels — one of our least favorite looks on the star to date.
It was a pretty jewel-toned suit for Shawn Mendes at the VMAs. The "Senorita" singer rocked this teal look but put his own spin on it by adding an unbuttoned black dress shirt with a super-casual white tank underneath that. He completed his sharp ensemble with black boots, layered necklaces and a few rings.
We can only assume Lil' Kim was inspired by her old music video for "Lady Marmalade" with this getup. She rocked the black-and-purple design featuring a plethora of sequins and feathers with strappy sandals and topped things off with another dash of purple with her bun.
Another sparkly look we loved? JuJu's emerald green jumpsuit! From the puffy sleeves to the plunging neckline to the bedazzled belt detail at the waist, this dreamy one-piece look was the perfect red carpet pick for one of music's biggest nights.
An emerald green look we didn't adore? Adriana Lima's odd gown from Sally LaPointe. Her ensemble was essentially a strapless bodysuit underneath a semi-sheer long-sleeved, ankle-length dress, but she redeemed herself slightly with those funky Christian Louboutin sandals.
Rick Ross proved there's no such thing as too much Gucci as he arrived dripping in the fashion house's iconic logo from head to toe. We give him props for all of the coordinating bronzes, browns and oranges, and we'll even give him a pass for wearing sunglasses on the red carpet.
While we admire FKA Twigs' originality on the red carpet, this look left us scratching our heads. The Ed Marler frock featured a crystal chainmail minidress, a pale blue chiffon sash along the bodice and a lengthy black train. And that busy combo was topped with a busy printed jacket.
Our favorite pantsuit of the night? That honor goes to Queen Latifah, who sported this stellar orange suit by Sergio Hudson that featured a surprising fringed detail at the hem.
We typically adore everything Hailee Steinfeld wears, but her red VMAs gown was disappointing. Though the color was great, the overdone sheer look was a snore and the slits up both sides of the skirt felt unnecessary.
At first we weren't wild about Lance Bass's casual ensemble — a cheery pink printed Mr. Turk suit with a T-shirt and white sneakers — but what was on the shirt really won us over! See what his tee said next…
Lance Bass is one-fifth of MTV VMAs royalty as a member of *NSYNC, and he paid homage to his boy band days via this amazing T-shirt that read "Tearin' Up My Heart" in honor of one of the group's biggest hits. We definitely couldn't make that sweet shout-out a fashion miss!
Yikes! The neckline on Alison Brie's frock looked like a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen. The star's Elie Saab minidress didn't really improve after that daring bodice — it gave way to a sheer skirt (yawn!) with sequined stripes — resulting in one of our least favorite looks of the night.
Though H.E.R. probably thought adding a snake to her ensemble was a unique choice, it ended up being the second one slithering down the red carpet… but we'll get to that next! Unfortunately for H.E.R., the snake ended up being the best part of her look — since the singer's Valentino jumpsuit left a lot to be desired with its strangely placed floral motif.
Diplo continued his country-inspired style reign with this custom suit at the MTV VMAs. We've got to say, we're digging this vibe, and we really loved the embroidery down his cream suit. Next up? A look at the special touches on the back…

Sorry, Tana Mongeau, but you'll never be Britney Spears. The YouTuber arrived in this unfortunate printed getup accessorized with a large yellow snake, an allusion to Britney's iconic "I'm a Slave 4 U" MTV VMAs performance. But even without the reptile (or those awful sunglasses), this Nicola Bacchilega look still would have been a flagrant miss.
Lizzo always makes a statement on the red carpet. This time, she opted for a siren red strapless Moschino dress (emblazoned with the work "siren" on it!) with a sweetheart neckline. And because it's the VMAs, she added a feather boa to take this look up a notch.
Blac Chyna committed a fashion faux pas with this teeny hot pink strapless feathered dress. But we did like those hot pink lace-up heels!

We wish we knew what Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi was going for when she donned this unfortunate getup. From the extra-long shiny jacket to the rainbow crop top to the high-waisted black trousers and the inexplicable addition of ivory and tan platform heels, none of this ensemble worked on the red carpet.

Where Snooki dressed like a casual, mismatched mess, JWoww got all glammed up in a slinky canary yellow number with an oversized ruffled detail along the left shoulder. We weren't wild about the way she added leopard heels, but compared with Snooki's mess of a look, we much prefer this one.
Maybe Bebe Rexha was trying to channel MTV's Moonman? The singer opted for this high-necked, short-sleeved silver minidress with an asymmetrical scalloped hemline at the VMAs. And though we appreciated the nod to the award show's famous trophy, we couldn't get behind this busy and nearly reflective frock.
The ageless Lenny Kravitz arrived in some edgy denim-on-denim in the form of a vintage Levis vest from What Goes Around Comes Around and jeans paired with a gold mesh destructed top. The "Low" singer added some white pointed-toe boots and a few other accessories, which we'll check out next…

Coordinates have been a huge trend on red carpets this summer, and though we loved the color of Jamie-Lynn Sigler's two-piece look at the VMAs, we couldn't get behind those wide-legged (and wrinkly!) trousers.

Look at all those ruffles! Zara Larsson's dreamy pink gown had a sweet bow detail at the waist and layer after layer of delicate ruffles at the neckline. When it came time to accessorize, she added some splashes of sparkle from Bulgari in the form of a chain necklace, drop earrings and multiple diamond rings. And for her beauty look, the singer kept her hair simple, loose and wavy and rocked a dramatic hot pink eye and rosy lip — simply stellar.
Ava Max, Halloween is not for two more months! The singer arrived in this superhero-esque getup by Kaimin — complete with silver sleeves and leggings and some insanely intense gladiator-style platform buckle boots.
