What's more exciting than seeing which actors take home the top prizes at the Academy Awards? Checking out what they're wearing, of course! This year, the 2017 Academy Awards certainly delivered in both the amazing and atrocious fashion departments, so let's get started with the first win of the night! It happens to belong to Emma Stone. Gold gone right! Best actress winner Emma Stone arrived at the 2017 Academy Awards channeling the Oscar statue itself in this gold Givenchy dress. Dakota Johnson showed up in this matronly, bizarre gold Gucci gown, making us wonder if she realized she was going to the Oscars. From the train to the frilly high collar to the weird bow addition at the waist, the only thing more perplexing than the dress was how she opted to wear her hair.
Such an edgy dress deserved an equally unique hairstyle, but Dakota Johnson opted to do the exact opposite. The actress wore her hair in a super-casual style — straight and pulled back — which unfortunately made it look flat and dull.
Throwback Hollywood glamour! Taraji P. Henson arrived on the red carpet and had a major moment in this Alberta Ferretti number. The midnight blue velvet gown featured off-the-shoulder sleeves and a thigh-high slit. She complemented the look perfectly with a layered diamond necklace.
The back of Chrissy Teigen's Zuhair Murad gown featured a lovely low back, but the cape-like detailing lost us. The excess fabric and drapey detailing just seemed a bit overdone. It's the only part of the glam white-and-gold gown we didn't adore.
She's back and better than ever! Halle Berry arrived at the 2017 Oscars in this one-shouldered nude gown with black tulle accents. The actress credited this Versace design, which featured Swarovski crystal accents and metallic fringe, with making her feel "feminine." She also opted to wear her locks natural, which we'll see next!
Halle Berry paired her Atelier Versace gown with a more natural beauty look — from her hair to her minimal makeup. But she still rocked a great pair of diamond drop earrings by Forevermark.
Charlize Theron selected Chopard jewels for the big night. The earrings featured — wait for it — 25-carat pear-shaped diamonds and 26-carat heart-shaped diamonds. Now those are some gems fit for an Oscars red carpet!
Hailee Steinfeld's Ralph & Russo gown featured multicolored floral appliqués in shades of salmon, lilac and white. The high-neck detail all but required an updo, so we don't fault her for the severe hairstyle. But it's safe to say this look was not our favorite.
This is the Oscars, Scarlett Johansson! Not a daytime movie premiere! From the casual pink print to the bulky belt at the waist, the dress was not Academy Award-worthy couture. We did, however, enjoy that she embraced the gown's hue with the pink tones in her makeup.
Ryan Gosling and Gucci are a match made in heaven. The "La La Land" star, who was nominated for best actor, opted to wear a tuxedo by the design house with a throwback ruffled shirt underneath and an oversized bow tie. Perfection!
Nicole Kidman's Armani gown was just as stunning from behind. It featured a plunging back and jeweled straps that crossed at her shoulders for an ultra-glamorous moment.
Naomie Harris wowed us all award season long, so we were disappointed when she arrived on the Oscars red carpet in this design. The strapless and sequined white gown was designed by Raf Simons for Calvin Klein, and while we liked the unique cutout below the bust, we weren't in love with the cape-like feature flowing behind her. Naomie did impress with her heel selection — adding a pop of color to her white ensemble with a pair of bright yellow Calvin Klein sandals.
What are you doing, Kelly Ripa?! Butterflies at the Oscars? We don't really know what to say about the daytime host's childish navy blue frock with butterfly detailing… except that we hate it.
Ruth Negga arrived in this show-stopping red gown, cementing herself as one of the best dressed of the night before most attendees had even shown up! Ruth's stunning look was custom-made for her by Valentino and featured a beautiful high neck, long sleeves and a train perfect for the special occasion. A jeweled headband?! We're obsessed! Ruth Negga rocked the unexpected accessory with her custom Valentino gown and coordinated her drop earrings with similar stones. She also donned a blue ribbon in support of the ACLU.
There's a whole lot happening on Janelle Monae's Oscars dress — and only she could pull this one off. Janelle rocked this massive Elie Saab creation, which featured feathered detailing, beads, jewels and sheer netting — and looked more like a work of art than a red carpet dress. Like Ruth Negga, Janelle also opted for a jeweled headband and plenty of bling. That's up next!

She kept the sparkly vibe going with her accessories, adding pieces by Forevermark including stud earrings and plenty of rings. With such a busy dress, she chose to keep her makeup look simple and sophisticated, which was a great move.
Emma Roberts donned this phenomenal vintage Armani Prive piece for the 2017 Oscars. The star's black and cream gown featured spaghetti straps and a plunging neckline, and we loved the layered detailing at the bottom.
Plenty of actresses are bound to arrive in Oscar gold, and Jessica Biel was at the head of the pack! The actress wore this gorgeous metallic KaufmanFranco creation on the red carpet, and we loved the unique, scattered, glimmering detailing on the long-sleeved frock.
We loved the pale silver hue of Octavia Spencer's Marchesa gown, but we weren't crazy about its detailing. While we were into the glam bodice, we're not fans of the feathered skirt. But we sure did adore those accessories! Let's take a closer look…
