As the grandson and son of professional wrestlers Peter "High Chief" Fanene Maivia and Rocky Johnson respectively, Dwayne Johnson was destined to spend time on the ropes. But it wasn't his plan A. He instead pursued pigskin dreams at the University of Miami but was sidelined by a back injury. Plan B, wrestling in the WWF, commenced in 1996. As the first third-generation performer in Federation history, he quickly rose in popularity, started a notorious feud with Steve Austin and changed his nickname to The Rock.
